Norris Volunteer Fire Department
The Norris Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1962 by men from your neighborhood, who dedicate their time and experience to provide fire protection for your family and business. These people bring a multitude of talents on behalf of the townspeople they serve and have all chosen to protect your home without any compensation.
The Norris Fire Department consists of a group of volunteers who strive to protect and improve the well being of the citizens of Norris by providing prompt and professional fire suppression and prevention services, to train and remain current on the standard fire fighting methods, to educate the public on fire safety and to promote the good image of the fire department and the town of Norris.
The Norris Police Department consists of deputies that work for the Pickens County Sheriff's Office. These deputies work for the Town of Norris on their days off from the sheriff's office.
In February 1988, shortly after Furman Rowland took office as mayor of Norris, it was decided that the town needed some type of law enforcement on a regular basis. The last time Norris had a full time police department was in 1985. Due to budget restraints it was decided that deputies from the sheriff's office would work for Norris on a part time basis. In February 1988, deputies went to work for Norris and they have continued to work ever since.
